The full form is CV joint is constant velocity joint and it is a flexible coupling which allows the outer wheel to steer, and the drive shaft to follow the up-and-down motions of the suspension as the vehicle moves.

A ribbed rubber boot conceals the CV joint at both ends of a drive shaft. The outboard CV joint connecting the drive wheel has a much wider operating angle when compared to the inboard CV joint which connects to the transaxle.

CV JointsThe company even manufactures an AC type CV joint which allows power transmission through 6 spherical balls placed between the inner and outer race. It manufactures AC type outer CV joint for OPEL and outboard CV joints which is particularly developed with a molybdenum coating on the ball groove of inner races and the cage.

Tripod joints don’t have balls but utilize needle-bearing rollers which are mounted on a three-legged spider. The VL type CV joint is a sliding joint for the drive shaft and it has balls moving in the oblique tracks to transmit the torque.
