If you already have an e-scooter or bike or intend to get one, it is important you know that regular maintenance can help recognize slight faults and prevent them from becoming expensive repairs. Below, we will explore several maintenance tips for electric commuters.

Ensure you regularly charge it

Your electric scooter’s battery will last longer if it has a continuous stored charge. A good recommendation is to ensure your power is consistently above 10%. But you shouldn’t overcharge it. When the battery completely charges, then disconnect it. Removing the charger when not in use also reduces the environmental impact of charging.

Always keep the vehicle clean

Cleaning is an essential part of ensuring your vehicle lasts long. Regularly cleaning it keeps it in good condition and ensures you enjoy the best electric city ride experience. Leaving dirt in the vehicles could result in damage to the external surface of the parts.

You can use your electric bike in the rain, but it’s better to avoid doing so, as wet conditions can cause permanent damage to your electric bike when completely submerged. Additionally, always store your electric bike or scooter at the correct temperature. You shouldn’t store it where the sun directly hits it. Instead, choose a place that isn’t too cold or hot. This is best for your battery life.

Perform regular checks

Before you begin riding your bike, check if the electric scooter or bike is ready. Check for loose bolts or nuts, and ensure it is secured. Also, check the steering column moves smoothly and doesn’t give resistance.

Additionally, check that the brakes work correctly. This is for your safety; slamming brakes could endanger you and others. The rear and front lights should also be correctly working because you need to turn them on when using your bike or scooter in the dark.

Check the tire pressure

Tire pressure determines how the material contacts the surface. The stress influences the range, comfort, braking, and component quality. Incorrect tire pressure can cause riding and safety issues, so you must conduct regular checks.

Check the cables and fasteners

The cables and fasteners are essential for your electric bike to ensure a safe and secure ride. Inspecting and tightening them helps prevent problems like loose connections, wobbly parts, and accidents.

Lubricate the parts

Lubricating your electric scooter or bike is vital for prolonging the life of its moving parts. Apply a suitable lubricant containing Polytetrafluoroethylene to the bike’s components. Applying lubricants helps prevent rust, reduce friction, and increase the lifespan of the parts. Don’t only lubricate the chain. Add the joints between the frame and wheel and other moving parts.

Lubricate the shock absorber and folding mechanism. Generally, use small amounts on the components and wipe off the excess. This ensures the fluids do not enter parts that can be damaged. To ensure your electric bike or scooter moving parts are properly maintained, lubricate them a minimum of once every week. If you use your electric scooter more, consider increasing the lubrication time.

Endnote

Electric rides are fast becoming popular, especially in the last decade. Many people, from children to teenagers and adults, use e-bikes and e-scooters for leisure and travel. You can make the most of your ride experience knowing that you are safe and that it is in the best condition.
