Cars become more advanced all the time. With the semi-autonomous features now found on many new cars, as well as the advanced safety features, it seems like the future is already here.
But big things are expected in the next few years. By 2020, new car technology will completely change the way we drive. Here are some of the major technologies you can expect to see by 2020.
Nearly Autonomous Vehicles
New models like the Dodge Charger already have great features that make driving safer. But technology will improve by 2020 to the point where cars will be doing a lot of the driving themselves.
Self-driving cars are still a little way off. Incredible concept cars have been created, but it’s going to be a while longer before they are driving on our roads.
However, nearly autonomous vehicles will be more common in 2020. By 2020, some cars will certainly be able to drive on their own in some circumstances but not all the time.
In addition, cars may be given more control to override your decisions as the driver, so expect to see more of these features by 2020.
Advanced Security
You can already unlock your smartphone and laptop with your fingerprint. So why not do the same with your car? Biometric access is going to become a more common feature over the next few years.
This is most likely to involve a fingerprint scan. You might even be able to start your car using your fingerprint as well.
More Connected Cars
Cars aren’t speaking to each other yet, and they’re unlikely to be doing so in 2020. But they will certainly be more connected, and that means nearly all cars will have a fast internet connection.
This will lead to better GPS maps, as well as syncing your home computer with your car and smartphone.
Window Displays
This should be here by 2020. The current Head-Up Display (HUD) is getting better, and it’s been around for a while, but glass will soon be able to display images such as navigation systems.
More Use of Remote Vehicle Shutdown
Some cars already have this, and it’s very useful if a car is stolen. By 2020, expect this to become far more common to the point where it is a standard feature in all cars.
More Advanced Tracking
Insurance companies are already using telematics to track drivers and provide more accurate premiums. This is going to become more common, and good drivers are likely to get cheaper premiums as a result. It will probably be voluntary, but that may change.
More Stop/Start Systems
This is another technology that is used today and helps to save fuel by shutting down the engine when the car is stopped. It is currently used mostly in hybrids, but it will become more common as well as cheaper.
Exciting Times Await for Cars
These are just some of the technologies that will be around in 2020, and they will change the way we drive. But of course, these are only just the beginning. By 2025 or 2030, driving will have completely changed yet again as technology continues to improve, making it a very exciting time to be a driver.
